Magdalena of Brandenburg (1460–1496)
Magdalena von Brandenburg (* 1460 in Tangermünde ; † June 17, 1496 at Hohenzollern Castle ) was a princess of Brandenburg and, by marriage, Countess of Hohenzollern .
Life
Magdalena was the only child of Margrave Friedrich III. von Brandenburg (1424–1463) from his marriage to Agnes (1436–1512), daughter of Duke Barnim VIII of Pomerania .
She married Count Eitel Friedrich II of Hohenzollern (1452–1512) on June 17, 1482 in the Berlin Palace . The connection between the Swabian and Brandenburg lines was important to the Hohenzollern family ; Magdalena became the ancestor of the princes of Hohenzollern-Hechingen and Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen .
Magdalena was buried in the Catholic collegiate church of St. Jakob in Hechingen . Her grave slab next to the high altar, probably created by the Nuremberg sculptor Peter Vischer , represents her together with her husband. Magdalena is shown here in old German costume with the swan order around her neck; at her feet a dog, the symbol of female loyalty. The tomb is one of Hechingen's great art treasures.
