Magdalena von Wied-Runkel († May 23, 1572 ) was the abbess of Nottuln Abbey and Elten Abbey .

Life

Origin and family

Magdalena von Wied-Runkel grew up as the daughter of Johann III. von Wied-Runkel (* 1475/85, † 1533) and his wife Countess Elisabeth von Nassau-Dillenburg (* 1488, † 1559) with their nine siblings in the ancient noble family of Count von Wied . Among her siblings were Margarethe von Wied-Runkel , Count Johann IV. Von Wied-Runkel († 1581) and Archbishop Friedrich IV. Von Wied of Cologne . She was related by marriage to Count Anton I von Isenburg-Büdingen-Ronneburg-Kelsterbach , Count Ludwig and Wolfgang von Stolberg-Königstein , CountFriedrich Magnus I of Solms-Laubach , Countess Katharina von Hanau-Münzenberg and the imperial heir to Christoph III. Schenk von Limpurg-Gaildorf (1531–1574). Her great-grandfather was Dietrich IV. (Runkel) . She was Protestant. Magdalena was a niece of Cologne Archbishop Hermann V von Wied , the Münster Bishop Friedrich III. von Wied and the Archbishop of Cologne, Franz von Waldeck .

Career and work

After her niece Elizabeth of Holstein-Schaumburg on their office had given up , she was from Nottulner Convention postulated on February 7, 1537 as the new abbess and only on 13 September 1542 by the Prince Bishop confirmed. On March 15, 1544, Magdalena also became abbess at Elten Abbey, where she resided from then on. Here she made a notarial will on February 15, 1656, in which she determined that 600 Reichstaler of her assets should be used to repair the Nottuln monastery.
