Mahayag is a Filipino municipality in the province of Zamboanga del Sur on the island of Mindanao . It has 46,516 inhabitants (August 1, 2015 census) who live in 29 barangays . The community is described as partially urban .
The name of the community is derived from the Visaya language , the word hayag means glow or glare. The municipality became an independent administrative unit of a municipality on March 9, 1960.
