Maike Weiss ( born Maike Brückmann , born February 29, 1984 in Heidelberg ) is a German handball player .
Career
At the age of five Maike Weiss began playing handball with the Minis at TV Hemsbach . She later switched to the youth of TV Nellingen and VfL Waiblingen . At the age of 16 she played for Waiblingen in the regional league . At 17 she went to the second division club Frisch Auf Göppingen . In 2005 she joined the Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund . From 2006 to February 2008, the 1.81 m tall back player was under contract with TSG Ketsch . During the 2007/08 season she moved to the Saxon top club HC Leipzig , where she signed a contract until June 2011.
In January 2010 Maike Weiss was signed by the second division HSG Bensheim / Auerbach . She was eligible to play for this club from February 1, 2010. In the 2009/10 season she was with the HSG Bensheim / Auerbach champion of the 2nd handball Bundesliga, group south. On June 20, 2011, the HSG Bensheim / Auerbach surprisingly announced the termination of the contract with Weiss. Then she joined the national division HC Wernau.
Maike Weiss was nominated by national coach Armin Emrich for the World Cup preparation tournament of the national team from October 18 to 21, 2007 in Rotterdam. In the course of the tournament, she was used in three games, her international debut in the game against Spain on October 19. At the 2007 World Cup in France, she was used in two games. After the World Cup game against Angola, she was voted Player of the Match . After a serious knee injury, Weiss had to undergo knee surgery and was unable to play in Leipzig for almost a year.
