The Main Forum is a building complex in Frankfurt am Main . It consists of an 80 meter high- rise building and a five-story ring building. It houses the headquarters of IG Metall and is therefore colloquially called IG Metall high-rise . The Main Forum is located on the north bank of the Main between Untermainkai and Wilhelm-Leuschner-Straße in Gutleutviertel .

The foundation stone for the Main Forum was laid on May 28, 2001 and both buildings were completed in 2003 after a construction period of almost three years. On the ground floor there is a 20 meter high atrium that connects the building parts and the L-shaped inner courtyard. Here you can find the installation Utsurohi (Eng. "A Moment of Movement") by Japanese artist Aiko Miyawaki . It is a body of water with a chrome-plated steel cable construction that is constantly in motion.

The high-rise was designed according to energy-saving principles. Instead of full air conditioning with chillers, a system of pipes below the main forum is used for cooling. During the cold season, Main water flows into the pipelines, which can be used for cooling in the summer months. The windows in the office can be opened. In order to save energy even in winter, the facades are designed differently depending on the directions. Therefore, the south side is provided with a closed natural stone facade for heat storage. Seen from the Main, the building appears to be divided into two parts. The west side also shows a natural stone facade, while the east side is glazed.

The building also has a conference area of around 1000 m 2 . The largest conference room ("Conference Room North") is also rented out to external organizers by IG Metall.

  2. The area between Wiesenhüttenstraße and Baseler Straße is often incorrectly assigned to the Bahnhofsviertel , since the wide Baseler Straße is perceived as the border between the districts, but in fact the Wiesenhüttenstraße is the border.
