Makapanstad is a city in the South African province of Northwest ( Northwest ). It is the administrative center of the Moretele municipality in the Bojanala Platinum district .

In 2011 Makapanstad had 15,076 inhabitants. 83 percent of the population spoke Setswana as their mother tongue . Makapanstad is located north of the metropolitan municipality of Tshwane, near the border triangle with the provinces of Limpopo and Gauteng . The similarly structured, somewhat larger Mathibestad is located southwest of Makapanstad .
history
Makapanstad is named after the traditional Makapan family. Their totem is the monkey ( kgabo on Setswana). The place was built as a township settlement. Until 1994 the place belonged to the homeland Bophuthatswana .
