TuS Makkabi Berlin is a German-Jewish sports club. He is a member of the umbrella organization Makkabi Germany .

Makkabi's roots go back to the Bar Kochba Berlin association founded in 1898 . By 1930 it had over 40,000 members from 24 countries. During the time of National Socialism , the club, like all Jewish sports organizations in the National Socialist German Reich, was forbidden to take part in official competitions, so that Jewish clubs only competed against each other. They were later forbidden to do that too.
On November 26, 1970, the club was re-established as TuS Makkabi Berlin , reviving the tradition of Jewish sports clubs, including SC Hakoah Berlin , for example . Makkabi Berlin is considered the successor to these clubs.
Today Makkabi Berlin has 500 members and aims to encourage and bring Jews and non-Jews to dialogue. The association is open to every denomination. Sports practiced include basketball , soccer , gymnastics , judo , swimming , taekwondo , tennis , table tennis , gymnastics , chess and volleyball .
Soccer
From a sporting point of view, Makkabi's football department was active for four seasons between 1982 and 1986 in what was then the third-class Oberliga Berlin . In 1987 she joined FV Wannsee , but has had her own team again since 1997. In 2012 and 2016, he was promoted to the sixth class Berlin League .
The "Sports Fields at Eichkamp ", where Makkabi Berlin plays its home games, were renamed "Julius-Hirsch Sports Fields in Eichkamp" in 2006 in honor of the Jewish German national soccer player Julius Hirsch , who was murdered in Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1943 . Also in 2006, TuS Makkabi Berlin, together with the European Maccabi Confederation and Makkabi Germany, organized the annual Maccabi Football Trophy, the European football championship for the Maccabi national teams.
