Malcolm Owen Dalrymple (born October 8, 1951 in Bedford ) is a former English football player . The goalkeeper played twelve games in the Football League Third Division for the Bristol Rovers and Watford FC .
Career
The English junior international goalkeeper received his first professional contract with the second division Luton Town in 1970 , but was immediately loaned out to Margate FC for a season in the Southern League in order to collect match practice. With Margate he reached the first main round of the FA Cup and played most of the season as a regular goalkeeper, but was ousted by Allen Clarke towards the end of the season . His return to Luton in the summer of 1971 was short-lived and by the end of August he left the club. He came to third division Bristol Rovers via Cambridge United in October 1971 . For the Rovers, Dalrymple played a total of eight competitive games behind regular goalkeeper Dick Sheppard in two years, in addition to seven league appearances, he was in the box in November 1972 in the 1-0 defeat in the FA Cup against the non-league club FC Hayes .
For the 1973/74 season he moved to league rivals Watford FC and was there behind Andy Rankin substitute keeper. Dalrymple came on the last five game days of the 1973/74 season for use, these were also his last games in the Football League . After remaining behind Rankin in 1974/75, he continued his career with FC Hendon in the Isthmian League from 1975 . Highlights of his time there were moving into the 2nd main round of the FA Cup 1975/76 by a 1-0 win over the Football League representative FC Reading and winning the Isthmian League Cup in 1977. The season 1978/79 he spent at Southport FC in the Northern Premier League , the club had been selected from the Football League the previous year. Dalrymple made 15 league appearances during the season and was in the first main round of the FA Cup (3: 4 against FC Altrincham ).
