The Malfrosnitzbach rises on the eastern slopes of the Venediger group or the Eichhamstock between Seekopfscharte, Großer and Kleiner Hexenkopf , Hoher and Nieder Eichham and Säulkopf (from north to south). The Malfrosnitzbach is fed by several spring streams that drain the Garaneberkees , the Hexenkees and the Säulkees . After these source streams have merged, the Malfrosnitzbach flows in an easterly direction through a high valley and then swings to the north, where it flows into the Frosnitzbach on the right in the area of the Zedlacher Alm . In the upper reaches, the Malfrosnitzbach is part of the Hohe Tauern National Park .
