Mallam Yahaya (born December 31, 1974 in Kumasi ) is a former Ghanaian soccer player . The midfielder played a large part of his career in Germany .

Athletic career

Yahaya first played in his home country Ghana for the King Faisal Babies before joining Borussia Dortmund through the youth team at AC Turin in the early 1990s . He first made his debut for his time in the third-tier Oberliga Westfalen An incoming amateur team in the adult area. Despite his seven goals this season in the 1993/94 season , the team missed qualification for the newly introduced third-rate regional league . Nevertheless, he continued to attract attention at a higher level as a dangerous midfielder in the fourth division, in the Bundesliga season 1994/95 he made his debut as the first African player in the club's history in the Bundesliga team. With two (against FC Schalke 04 and Bayern Munich ) and one (against Borussia Mönchengladbach ) short appearances, he contributed to winning the championship title in that and the following season. At the same time he played his way into the circle of the Ghanaian national team , for which he played twelve international matches until 2000 . In the summer of 1996 he also took part in the Summer Olympics in Atlanta . There he failed with the selection team in the quarterfinals.

In the first half of the 1996/97 Bundesliga season , Yahaya played twice for BVB before he was transferred to the second division club SV Waldhof Mannheim during the winter break . Here, too, he was denied the big breakthrough with seven appearances , which is why he moved on to the Stuttgarter Kickers in the summer of 1997 within the 2nd Bundesliga . After only seven season appearances, he returned to Mannheim after a year and led the club, which had meanwhile been relegated to the regional league, back into the second division with nine goals. There he was only used irregularly there, after which he briefly tried his hand at GKS Katowice .

From 2001 Yahaya was active in North Baden amateur football. First he ran for VfR Mannheim in the Regionalliga Süd, despite the license withdrawal at the end of the 2011/02 season , he initially remained loyal to the club in the Baden Association League and the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg . Later he played for FC-Astoria Walldorf , ASV Durlach and TSV Amicitia Viernheim, also in the middle amateur area. He then ended his active career at SV Rohrbach and ASV Feudenheim in the regional and district leagues.

Then Yahaya returned to Ghana, where he worked as a trainer.
