Mallestig is a cadastral municipality in the municipality of Finkenstein am Faaker See in the Villach-Land district .

The historic town of Mallestig / Malošče is the southern center of the settlement of Finkenstein, which is the main town of the municipality of the same name. It was formed in 1973 from the meanwhile merged villages Mallestig / Malošče and St. Stefan / Šteben. The name refers to the former rulership and the Finkenstein district court, whose original seat was Finkenstein Castle and from around 1795 Neufinkenstein Castle .
