With Mama Grizzlies , Sarah Palin referred to the candidates she supported in the elections in the United States in 2010 , in which she specifically promoted female candidates. Most of these candidates are also commonly assigned to the tea party movement . The name was officially introduced in July 2010 in a YouTube video by Palin's SarahPAC ( Political Action Committee ). Sarah Palin herself first used the term in a speech on May 14, 2010: "If you thought pit bulls were tough, you don't want to mess with mama grizzlies" (If you thought pit bulls are tough, then you want yourself not with Mama - grizzlies Create).

The individual candidates were "notified" of the public by calling a talk show, Facebook, tweet or SMS . Some of them, such as Nikki Haley or Christine O'Donnell , contrary to expectations, managed to win the primaries, which are mandatory in the USA.

In the elections, 15 of the 34 Mama Grizzlys made it into the House of Representatives and 5 of the 12 candidates were also elected as Senators.

criticism

The established, left-wing Political Action Committee EMILY’s List believes that the radical positions of the candidates harm feminism . The left-wing journalist Conniff describes the ideas of the Mama Grizzlys as "a luxury that only rich and privileged women can afford " .
