Mamou is a small town in Evangeline Parish in the US state of Louisiana .
Culture
Mamou is in the heart of Acadiana , Louisiana's Cajun region. The city is famous for its music and calls himself "The Cajun Music Capital of the World" (the world capital of Cajun music ). The city name appears in the title of various songs, for example in Big Mamou , Tit Galop Pour Mamou and Valse de Grand Mamou . In Mamou, Cajun music is played every Saturday morning in Fred's Lounge, which is simultaneously broadcast over the radio to the entire Cajun region.
Every year on Mardi Gras , the so-called Courir de Mardi Gras is held in Mamou . The residents of Mamous ride out into the surrounding area and collect chickens and other ingredients for a gumbo from the neighbors , which is cooked for everyone after returning and a parade on 6th Street. Cajun and Zydeco bands play on the main street and the adjacent pubs throughout the day .
