Pond

The Mandlesweiher are a group of ponds near the market town of Pleinfeld in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen .

description

The chain of lakes begins below the dam of the Great Bromb axis north of Pleinfeld at an altitude of 375 meters above sea level and is fed by the Brombach emerging from the lake , which flows a little south along the chain of ponds. The largest is also fed from the north by the Weilerbach . The lakes are also fed by smaller springs in the vicinity. After the last, the Heiligenwaldsee follows down the valley . Several bridges cross the ponds.

The name of the pond is given by the desert Mandlesmühle , which is directly adjacent. The term Mandles in the name comes from Middle High German ( Mantelach ' Föhrenwald ').

The four standing water bodies of around 10 hectares in total  and around 1.2 kilometers in length from west to east were created in their present form in the 2000s, when the Brombachsee dam was built directly in front of the Mandlesmühle during the construction of the Franconian Lake District. This is where the current chain of ponds was created. Before that there was only one Mandlesweiher west of the Mandlesmühle.
