The Heiligenwaldsee is a quarry pond near Pleinfeld in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen .

geography

The lake is located around two kilometers north of Pleinfeld and east of the Great Bromb axis . It extends over a length of 830 meters from west to east. The Brombach flows past a short distance north , and it has several connections with this and the Mandlesweiher to the west .

Towards the wider east side of the lake is an island a little over a hectare in size, which is connected to the north shore by two dams. Sand is extracted in the east and south of the lake, and in the north there are several sand washing basins. By letting the agitated suspended matter settle here, the Heiligenwaldsee, the Brombach and the Swabian Rezat are not clouded by them.

history

In 1978, the Fiegl company from Pleinfeld received the approval to mine sand in the Pleinfeld district and to dredge today's Heiligenwaldsee. The dismantling period was initially limited to 1994 and was later extended to 2010. Sand washing in the Heiligenwaldsee was approved in 2002. In 2010, the company applied for an extension of the permit for further sand mining and sand washing in Heiligenwaldsee, by submitting a landscape maintenance plan, until 2020, as not all of the originally approved mining areas had been exploited and the mining depth was to be increased to 15 meters.

fauna and Flora

The fish in the lake include eel , carp , tench , pike , pikeperch and various white fish .
