Manfred Linz (born May 15, 1945 in Weiden in the Upper Palatinate ; † November 5, 2004 ) was a German football player who had played two games in the German amateur national team in 1965.

career

Amateur at SpVgg Weiden, until 1966

The offensive talent Manfred Linz went through the entire age bracket in the youth department of his home club SpVgg Weiden . With the blue-blacks from the stadium at the waterworks, he celebrated in his first round in the senior division, 1963/64, the championship in the Landesliga Mitte and thus promotion to the Bayernliga . The second title win followed seamlessly in the top amateur class in Bavaria. Before BC Augsburg and SpVgg Bayreuth , the Upper Palatinate secured the championship and promotion to the South Regional Football League in 1965 . For the 20-year-old winger Manfred Linz, this round brought victory in the national cupby a 3-2 success with the Bayern association - with goalkeeper Rudolf Netzel and defenders Josef Parzl and Heinz Wittmann - against Westphalia and on June 2, 1965 the debut in the amateur national team. In the 4-2 win against Holland in Winschoten, the German attack consisted of Helmut Sandmann , Heinz-Herbert Kreh , Gerhard Faltermeier , Gerhard Neuser and Manfred Linz on the left wing. The Weidener scored a goal for the DFB amateurs.

With coach Karel Finek , the climber Weiden took on the sporting challenge in the Regionalliga Süd in the 1965/66 round . The first home game on August 22, 1965 against SV Waldhof Mannheim in front of 8,500 spectators, was won 4-1 goals and the attackers Jürgen Glinka and Manfred Linz distinguished themselves as double goal scorers . A series of defeats from the 12th to the 17th matchday with the result of 0:12 points let the Upper Palatinate with 12:22 points slip into the table cellar, from which they could not free themselves in the second half of the season. The 20-year-old talent Günter Helgert has already been used in twelve games in this regional round. With 27:41 points, Weiden descended into the amateur camp as 17th in the table together with VfR Pforzheim and ESV Ingolstadt . Manfred Linz had played 29 games for his club and scored eight goals. On October 27, 1965, Linz was appointed to the amateur national team for a second time. In Wiesbaden there was a 6-2 win against Finland with center forward Dieter Zettelmaier scoring three goals. The championship brought the 1. FC Schweinfurt 05 and ordered to round the 1966/67 Weiden winger Manfred Linz.

Schweinfurt 05, 1966 to 1970

Schweinfurt 05 could not repeat the performance of the championship round in 1965/66 as defending champion in 1966/67. The Lower Franconia came only in tenth place and replaced coach Gunther Baumann by Bernd Oles in February 1967 . Linz came on the side of Kurt Dachlauer , Robert Gehling , Heinz Krämer , Karl Metzger and Manfred Rühr on 16 missions and scored one goal. When the Hungarian national player Jenő Vincze took over the coaching position in Schweinfurt in the 1967/68 round, things went up again in the table. Dachlauer, Dieter Höller , Walter Hohnhausen and Manfred Linz (32 games - seven goals) were the guarantors on the offensive and goalkeeper Manfred Kirsch stabilized the defense of the 05er, who took fifth place. The 5: 1 success against the later champions and Bundesliga promoted Kickers Offenbach - DFB Cup winner on August 29, 1970 - in the catch-up game on April 29, 1970 is one of the outstanding games that Manfred Linz has experienced with Schweinfurt. With the Kremers twins, Roland Weida, Hans Reich , Egon Schmitt , Horst Gecks and Walter Bechtold, coach Zlatko Čajkovski had several players on the team who clearly stood out in the Regionalliga Süd. Linz played 31 games in its fourth season in Schweinfurt, 1969/70 , and scored four goals. Together with his fellow players Andreas Buß , Gerd Brunnhuber , Klaus Nahlik and Werner Rumpel , he came fifth with Schweinfurt. From 1965 to 1970 Manfred Linz played 126 regional league games and scored 27 goals. Close family ties to his parents' house were the main reason for his return to Weiden in 1970, although he had felt in good hands and at ease in Schweinfurt, both in sport and in his private life. From the 1970/71 season Linz played again for the local game association.

Weiden, until 1980

In the first year, 1970/71, Weiden came with the returnee Manfred Linz behind the champion and promoted SpVgg Bayreuth to second place in the Bayernliga and competed in the games for the German amateur championship against the amateurs from VfB Stuttgart. On 11 July 1971, the Weiden club colleague Günter Helgert and Manfred Linz were the the final at the Countries Cup 2 in the Bavarian Association selection: 1 goals by extension in Bayreuth against the Lower Rhine - with Heiner Baltes , Reiner Hollmann , Rudolf Seliger , Klaus Wunder - won . Weiden also won the runner-up in the Bavarian League in 1972. From the 1972/73 round Linz exercised the position of player-coach at SV 1903 Weiden and led the SV in the 1978/79 round after winning the title in the Landesliga Mitte. After his return to the game association in 1980, he held the office of team manager there for 16 years and coached various youth teams for years.
