Manfred Sauerbrey

Manfred Sauerbrey (born October 10, 1927 in Rüstringen- Heppens; † December 18, 2006 in Darmstadt ) was a State Secretary with commitment in the environmental sector and in the realization of German unity in the Free State of Thuringia .

Life

During the Second World War he was still employed as an air force helper and was initially captured by the US as a Soviet prisoner of war. He began his post-war life with the completion of the carpenter's apprenticeship examination. Manfred Sauerbrey then completed a degree at the State Building School in Darmstadt in order to obtain the subject-specific higher education entrance qualification and in 1955 to begin university studies at the RWTH Aachen , which he continued at the Technical University in Darmstadt . After taking his diploma in hydraulic engineering , Manfred Sauerbrey became a scientific assistant and was able to devote himself to his dissertation, which he obtained in 1969 with a doctorate in engineering. graduated from G. Rincke in the field of wastewater hydraulics. Title of his work: Discharge in drainage pipes with special consideration of the flow processes in partially filled pipes .

He then went to the water management administration of the state of Hesse , with activities in the water management offices in Wiesbaden and Dillenburg . In 1974 he was transferred to the water management administration of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate with managerial functions at the Neustadt an der Weinstrasse water management office and in the relevant ministries in Mainz . In 1977 he became deputy head of the water management administration of Rhineland-Palatinate.

In the meantime he had become a reserve officer in the German Armed Forces and in 1980 reached the rank of Colonel of the Reserve. Manfred Sauerbrey was married to Mathilde Sauerbrey, b. Rühl, and has three children.

Sauerbrey supervised and held lectures at the Technical University of Darmstadt between 1962 and 1970. In 1985 he received a lectureship on the subject of planning and implementation of hydraulic engineering projects in the department of architecture / spatial and environmental planning / civil engineering at the University of Kaiserslautern .

During his time in Mainz, Sauerbrey had completed an additional law degree at the University of Mainz. In 1999 he began a second university course in history, with the minor subjects German and archeology, at the Technical University of Darmstadt and completed the master’s intermediate examination in history in 2000. With impaired health, he began his master’s thesis on the subject of the Karlsgraben ( Fossa Carolina ) from the year 793 and its surroundings . Due to two strokes, he had to give up further plans.

Political activities

Between 1980 and 1985, Sauerbrey was a German delegate to the German-Luxembourg negotiating commission on a new common border, as a result of which a contractually fixed German-Luxembourg condominium was created.

After retiring, Sauerbrey applied for an advisory role in East Germany in 1990. He held various positions at ministries of the Free State of Thuringia and was appointed State Secretary in the Thuringian Ministry of the Environment. In this role he played a decisive role in the reorganization of the water supply and wastewater treatment in the Thuringian regional companies.
