Manfred Scheich (born April 1933 in Opava ; † March 6, 2020 in Vienna ) was an Austrian ambassador .

Life

Manfred Scheich studied commercial science in Vienna and from 1957 to 1958 at the Johns Hopkins University in Bologna . Since 1954 he has been a member of the Catholic student association KÖHV Franco-Bavaria Vienna in the ÖCV .

In 1960 he joined the foreign service and was employed by the OECD in Paris . From 1960 to 1964 he was deputy head of the Austrian delegation at the European Free Trade Association in Geneva . From 1964 to 1967 he was again employed at the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs in Vienna . From 1967 to 1969 he was employed in the UNIDO secretariat in Vienna. from 1967 to 1970 he was chairman of the foreign policy committee of the Austrian workers' union (ÖAAB). From 1970 to 1974 he was Counselor to the EC in Brussels. From 1970 to 1974 he was counselor in Bern . From 1974 to 1978 he was ambassador to Algiers. From 1983 to 1986 he headed the Austrian representation at the EC in Brussels. From 1986 to 1993 he was employed in the economic section of the Federal Ministry for Foreign Affairs. From 1993 to 1999 he headed the Permanent Representation of Austria to the European Union .
