Manfred Wolf (born January 11, 1948 in Steinbach-Hallenberg ) is a former German ski jumper. From 1969 to 1973 he held the world record in ski flying with 165 m .
Career
The son of medium-sized entrepreneurs with ties to the West learned the trade of toolmaker and was initially not promoted in sports in the GDR. He started with ski jumping at SC Steinbach-Hallenberg and was later delegated to SC Motor Zella-Mehlis, where he, like Helmut Recknagel , was trained by Hans Renner . During his basic military service, Wolf came to ASK Vorwärts Brotterode and was supported there by Werner Lesser . The jumper starting for the ASK Vorwärts Oberhof was seen as the successor to Helmut Recknagel. This has always been the model of the 1.76 meter tall and 74 kg heavy wolf. After his successes in Zakopane and Spindleruv Mlyn, Wolf got into the support team of the ski association, with his coach Lesser vouching for him. On March 23, 1969, Wolf set a new ski flying world record in Planica with 165 m. After his heavy fall on the Oberhofer Thuringia ski jump in the summer of 1970, the original telemark jumper changed his style and became a Kachler. After the success of the new generation of ski jumpers around Hans-Georg Aschenbach , Wolf was retired from ASK Vorwärts Oberhof in 1974. Wolf then completed a degree in mechanical engineering.
Wolf is now an entrepreneur in Steinbach-Hallenberg and lives in Viernau . He is married and has a daughter and a son.
