Mantic Ritual is a Thrash Metal band from Pittsburgh founded in 2004 under the name Meltdown . The band is currently under contract with Nuclear Blast .
Band history
The band was formed in the summer of 2004 as a meltdown by Dan Wetmore, Ben Mottsman and others in Pittsburgh. A few months later, Adam Haritan joined as a drummer. After a few lineup changes, Jeff Potts was accepted into the band as lead guitarist in autumn 2005. Haritan said that Potts "completed the band." This point in time represents the actual formation of the band.
Meltdown then played in various clubs in Pittsburgh . The band had an early desire to become better known outside of Pittsburgh and thought about ways to increase their popularity. From the contact with bands like Warbringer and Fueled by Fire , the idea of organizing some gigs in Los Angeles emerged . Because of the greater prospect of success, the four band members moved to Los Angeles in 2007, where they released their debut album Executioner as a demo and then signed a record deal with Nuclear Blast in February 2008. The band members recently moved back to Pittsburgh.
The debut album Executioner was completely re-recorded in April 2008 with Andy Classen in the Stage One Studio in Bühne , and another, previously unreleased song was recorded. The release of the album was delayed due to the change of the band name, which was changed on the advice of management.
On January 21, 2009 the songs "Next Attack" and "Murdered to Death" were presented on Myspace , followed a week later by the video clip for the song "One by One", which was produced by Maurice Swinkels of Legion of the Damned . The album Executioner was released on February 27, 2009 via Nuclear Blast in Europe, in the USA the album was released on March 10, 2009.
In January 2009, Mantic Ritual were touring the US with Rotting Christ . A US tour with Destruction and Krisiun followed in March .
The band announced in April 2009 that they were working on a new album.
Singer and guitarist Dan Wetmore left Mantic Ritual in September 2009 to focus on school again. Dave Watson will support the band for the upcoming US tour.
style
Mantic Ritual were not originally set to the style of Thrash Metal, but according to drummer Adam Haritan it has developed in this direction under many influences. Haritan cites bands such as Mercyful Fate , Danzig , Metallica , Slayer and Sepultura as examples of these influences , but also Scorpions , Ramones , The Clash and Sex Pistols . NWoBHM bands like Diamond Head and Iron Maiden also exert a great influence on the band's songwriting . Potts' guitar playing is also influenced by progressive metal ( Dream Theater , Symphony X ).
About the content of the music and the band name, Haritan said in an interview with the webzine metal.de :
“People are getting more and more stupid, live their lives unconsciously and are completely oblivious to reality. It has become a ritual not to think for yourself anymore and instead to be satisfied with mediocrity. This is a very important topic for us, especially in terms of our lyrics, so I think the name is very appropriate. "
Numerous reviews of Executioner have compared the band's style to the early Metallica and Exodus on both instrumental and vocal levels .
