Manuel Felguérez
Manuel Felguérez (born December 12, 1928 in Valparaíso , † June 8, 2020 in Mexico City ) was a Mexican sculptor and painter.
biography
Felguérez was born on the San Agustín del Vergel estate in the municipality of Valparaíso . He studied at the La Esmeralda art academy , at the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), which emerged from the Academia de San Carlos , and later at the Académie Colarossi as a scholarship holder of the French government in Paris .
He belonged to the first generation of abstract Mexican artists and created numerous paintings , sculptures and reliefs at home and abroad , whose geometric shapes are characteristic of him. In addition, he continued his academic training at Cornell University in 1967 and Harvard University in 1975 . He became a member of the Academia de Artes in 1974 and after his return from the United States he researched at the Institute for Aesthetic Research at UNAM until retirement in 1990 .
He died at home in June 2020 at the age of 91 as a result of a SARS-CoV-2 infection.

- 1993: "Creador Emérito" of the Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte
