Manuel Hornig (born December 18, 1982 in Kandel ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

player

Hornig started playing football at the Palatinate club Olympia Rheinzabern and then switched to the youth team at Karlsruher SC . In 2000 he joined the SC Hauenstein , for which he was active in the Oberliga Südwest until 2005 . Then he moved to 1. FC Saarbrücken . From 2007 to 2008 he was under contract with Kickers Offenbach , after which he joined 1. FC Kaiserslautern . Originally committed as a leading player for the second team, he also played his way into the second division squad with good training at FCK.

Hornig is left-footed and was mainly used as a central defender at 1. FC Saarbrücken, and sometimes also as a left full-back. He made his first appearance in the second division on May 14, 2006 for 1. FC Saarbrücken in a 2-0 win against Eintracht Braunschweig. In addition, he was used twice in the DFB Cup . In August 2010 Hornig signed a one-year contract with TuS Koblenz .

After a good season with TuS, he signed a contract with Arminia Bielefeld for the 2011/12 season , who had previously been relegated from the 2nd Bundesliga to the 3rd division. On the 7th matchday he scored his first goal for East Westphalia in the 20th minute of the game against SSV Jahn Regensburg with the intermittent 1-0 . The game ended 2-2. Hornig rose to the 2nd Bundesliga with Arminia in 2013 and 2015. In the 2013/14 season he was appointed team captain. In 2017 he ended his career.

Trainer

Hornig was already the assistant coach of three of Arminia Bielefeld's youth teams . At the moment he is active in the U-19 selection.

Private

In addition to his career as a professional footballer, he completed a teaching degree and has been a trainee lawyer at the Helmholtz Gymnasium in Bielefeld since November 1, 2017 . He has now also become a teacher there.

His younger brother Florian (* 1985) was active in the regional and upper leagues at SC Hauenstein , TuS Mechtersheim , 1. FC Saarbrücken SSV Ulm 1846 and SC Freiburg II .
