Marc Platt (born December 2, 1913 in Pasadena , California - † March 29, 2014 in San Rafael , California; actually Marcel Emile LePlat ) was an American dancer , choreographer and film actor .

Life

Marc Platt took his first ballet lessons with Mary Ann Wells at the age of eleven . In the 1930s he began his professional dance career under the stage name Marc Platoff as one of the original members of the Ballets Russes . In 1939 he choreographed the musical Ghost Town to the music of Richard Rodgers . In 1943 he performed at the premiere of the later Broadway hit musical Oklahoma! starring as Curly McLain. Twelve years later he was also seen in the screen adaptation of the same name , but only in an insignificant supporting role.

In the film, he had his most important role as Daniel in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers ( Seven Brides for Seven Brothers , 1954) on the side of Howard Keel and Jane Powell . Critics have already praised his dance performance in his debut film, the musical Tonight and Every Night (1945), where he starred alongside Rita Hayworth and Janet Blair . Bosley Crowther wrote in the New York Times : “Mr. Platt's high leaps in this film will catapult him into Hollywood heaven. ” Variety also praised his performance:“ Marc Platt […] delivers a sensational debut, his dance interpretation of a speech by Hitler is a real highlight. ”

After Platt finished his own dance career, he took care of the ballet at Radio City Music Hall for several years and began to train new talents. Over the years, especially in the 1950s, he also appeared in a number of television series, such as Wyatt Earp intervenes ( The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp , 1958) and - after a break of around 30 years - most recently in Matlock ( 1993). He also played in some films. In 2000 he received the Nijinsky Award at a reunion of the Ballets Russes.

His first marriage (1942–1947) had a son, the actor Ted Le Plat . Marc Platt was married to the dancer Jean Goodall from 1951 until her death in 1994. Two more children come from this connection. Marc Platt most recently lived in Santa Rosa , California, near his daughter Donna.
