Marcel Janco
Marcel Janco (born as Marcel Iancu ) ( Hebrew מרסל ינקו; * May 24, 1895 in Bucharest ; † April 21, 1984 in Tel Aviv ) was a Romanian - Israeli artist , writer and architect . He is one of the forefathers of Dadaism .
Life
In 1916 he founded the Cabaret Voltaire in Zurich together with Hugo Ball , Tristan Tzara , Richard Hülsenbeck , Hans Arp and others . In 1917 he created the masks and costumes for Rudolf von Laban's dance theater Sang an die Sonne on Monte Verità above Ascona.
In 1922 he returned to Romania and worked there as an architect and painter until 1941. Due to the increasing anti-Semitism during the Second World War , he emigrated to Israel . Janco's initiative comes from the artist colony founded in 1953 in En Hod in northern Israel. In 1952 he took part in the Venice Biennale . In 1967 he was awarded the Israel Prize .
Among other things he wrote for the avant-garde magazine Contimporanul .
At documenta 8 in Kassel in 1987 , recordings by him were performed as an official contribution to the exhibition as part of the “Archeology of Acoustic Art 2: Dada Music”.
