Marcus Bölz (born February 2, 1975 in Stuttgart ) is a German journalist , scientist and university professor . Since 2014 he has been teaching journalism with a focus on sports journalism at the Fachhochschule des Mittelstands in Hanover.

Life

Marcus Bölz began his scientific career at the University of Dortmund and graduated in 2005 with a degree in journalism. During his studies, he wrote articles for numerous daily newspapers, volunteered at the Schwäbische Zeitung and, after completing his training as an editor for the newspaper , reported on events in the Bundesliga as a freelancer. In cooperation with the German Football League , Bölz examined the question of what assessments and ideas football professionals of the two national leagues have of the work and the competence of the sports journalists who report on them. In addition, Bölz completed a degree in psychology in 2005 .

After completing his studies, he started as a local editor for the Rhein-Zeitung and then switched to the Schwäbische Zeitung as a sports editor . After that he went as a journalist and worked independently in the newsroom radio / Online of Deutsche Welle , wrote as an author but also for other media segments such as, but for the German press agency , the Frankfurter Rundschau or zeit.de . In addition, he worked as a consultant in journalistic training and further education and taught at numerous German universities, including the sports journalism course at the University of Tübingen and at the Fachhochschule des Mittelstands (FHM).

Bölz received his doctorate in 2011 from the University of Koblenz-Landau . In his dissertation, he deals with the question of how the work of sports journalists and the editorial work processes are developing under the auspices of the digital media change and the increasing professionalization and commercialization of sport in Germany. Marcus Bölz developed the Sports Journalism & Sports Marketing course at the University of Applied Sciences for Medium-sized Enterprises in Hanover. In January 2014, Bölz was appointed professor for this department. Since the summer of 2014, Marcus Bölz has been the head of the Institute for Sports Communication at the FHM. Among other things, the institute organizes the Lower Saxony Sports Journalists' Forum and has been awarding the Lower Saxony Sports Journalists Prize since 2014.

Before his studies, Bölz was active as a small actor at the Staatstheater Stuttgart and ran a digital love letter agency in the 1990s . He is married and has three children.

Research and Teaching

Marcus Bölz's work focuses on conveying practical journalism work processes such as journalistic writing, editorial work and researching the journalistic work process, aspects of media impact and the reception of journalistic products. Marcus Bölz places one focus of research on researching the processes surrounding the sports journalism department . In his seminars he also deals with media theory and communication science .
