Marcus Forss (born June 18, 1999 in Turku ) is a Finnish football player who is currently under contract with the English second division club Brentford . The striker has been a Finnish U21 international since September 2018 .

Career

society

Forss began playing soccer at FC Ruskon Pallo and came to England via Turun Weikot and FDS-Suomi in 2012 as a 13-year-old , where he moved to the youth department of West Bromwich Albion . In 2015 he signed a two-year scholarship contract with the Baggies . In the 2015/16 season he played for the U23 team in the Premier League 2 for the first time and in the next season he took part in the EFL Trophy with the reserve and completed an assignment there. At the end of the season he left the club after his contract expired.

On June 22, 2017, Forss signed a two-year contract with the reserve team at Brentford FC . There he already showed appealing performances in his first season and was the top scorer with 21 goals and won the award for player of the year. During the season he was rewarded with a new contract with a term until 2021. For the 2018/19 season he was promoted to the first team of the second division . On August 18, 2018, he made his debut in a 4-2 away win against Southend United in the Carabao Cup for head coach Dean Smith's team . He started and achieved the interim 1-0 lead in the 42nd minute of the game. He then went on two more missions before sustaining a back injury in September that caused him to be out for five months. In February 2019, he made his comeback and was then regularly in the matchday squad, but only played sporadically. On the last day of the season he scored in his sixth league game for the first time in a 3-0 home win against Preston North End .

In the following 2019/20 season , Forss did not break into the starting line-up either. In the first six league games he only came to two short appearances. Only in the EFL Cup did he flourish for a short time. However, he did not succeed there either, despite a goal in regular time and the converted attempt in the penalty shootout to avoid the elimination of his team against the lower-class club Cambridge United . On September 2, 2019, the striker signed a new four-year contract with Brentford and was loaned to third division AFC Wimbledon on the same day for the remainder of the season. There he met in his first appearance on September 7th (7th matchday), when he scored the goal to make it 1: 2 in the home game against Milton Keynes Dons after being substituted in the closing stages . In his next five league games, he scored six goals, including a hat trick in the 4-1 away win over Southend United. In the case of the relegation candidate, he quickly rose to become an indispensable high performer and was rewarded for his achievements with the award for EFL Young Player of the Month of October. On January 14, 2020, he was recalled from Brentford due to a hamstring injury. By then he had scored eleven times in 18 league games.

Forss was in action for various Finnish junior selections. He has been a Finnish U21 international since September 2018 .
