Marcus McLaurine

Marcus McLaurine (born May 7, 1952 in Omaha , Nebraska ) is an American jazz musician ( double bass ) of modern jazz .

Live and act

McLaurine did military service at McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey and played in the 590th Air Force Band. He worked in the American jazz scene since the 1970s; first recordings were made in 1976 in Los Angeles with Horace Tapscott . From the 1980s he played in New York with musicians such as Clark Terry , Kenny Burrell , Jon Hendricks , McCoy Tyner , Abbey Lincoln , Cleo Laine , Lou Donaldson , Abdullah Ibrahim , David Fathead Newman , Illinois Jacquet , Buck Clayton , Lionel Hampton , Onaje Allan Gumbs ( Remember Their Innocence ), Bobby Watson , Melba Liston , Freddie Hubbard and in the Count Basie Orchestra ( Ghost Band under the direction of Thad Jones ). In the field of jazz, he was involved in 72 recording sessions between 1976 and 2018, in addition to the aforementioned also with Jay Hoggard , Grover Mitchell , the Hank Jones / Satoru Oda Quintet and John Hicks . Currently (2019) he is a member of the Claire Daly Quartet and the Michael Cochrane Quartet.

Mclaurine has been teaching as adjunct professor in the jazz department at William Paterson University since 1997 . He is not to be confused with the comic book writer Marcus McLaurin.
