Mareike Engels

Mareike Engels (* 6. July 1988 in Weener ) is a German politician of the party Alliance 90 / The Greens Hamburg and member of the Hamburg Parliament .

Engels is the spokesperson for the Federal Working Group on Women's Policy of the Greens. Her political focus is on social policy as well as women's and gender policy. In mid-April 2015 she succeeded Till Steffen in the 21st Hamburg citizenship .

Life

After graduating from high school in 2008, Engels was a full-time project manager for the Youth Media Days 2009 in Hanover. Engels has been studying sociology at the University of Hamburg since October 2009 . In 2013, she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and History. She then began her master's degree. From 2009 to 2015 she was a scholarship holder of the Heinrich Böll Foundation .

Engels joined the Green Youth in 2008 and the Greens in 2009. Since July 2009 she has been involved with the Green Youth Hamburg and the Hamburg regional association of the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen party . From 2011 she became involved in the state working group on women's politics, of which she was spokesperson from 2013 to 2015. In 2012 she became a delegate of the state working group to the federal working group on women's politics. She has been their co-spokesperson since autumn 2013. Engels was in the 20th legislature for the Greens deputy of the authority for health and consumer protection .

From 2009 to 2012 she was a member of the state board of the Green Youth Hamburg, 2010 to 2012 as state spokeswoman. In this role, after Ole von Beust's resignation in summer 2010 , she spoke out in favor of an end to the black-green coalition in Hamburg.

Engels ran for the Greens on the third constituency list place in the 2011 mayor election in the Blankenese constituency. In the 2015 mayor election, she ran for 5th place on the state list of the Greens and 2nd place in the Altona constituency list , but did not win a seat in the citizenship. After the coalition negotiations for the red-green Senate were over , Till Steffen was reappointed the Senator of Justice. Engels moved up for him in the 21st citizenship. She is the spokesperson for social affairs, women and equality and chairwoman of the social committee. At the beginning of April 2019, Engels was elected deputy group leader.

From 2013 to 2015, Engels was a member of the program advisory board of the association “rethink Heinrich Böll Foundation Hamburg eV”.

On February 23, 2020, Engels again succeeded in entering the Hamburg Parliament .
