The Marella Celebration is a cruise ship for the British travel company Marella Cruises that entered service in 1984 . It was originally completed as Noordam for the Holland-America Line and remained in service for them until 2004. In the same year, the ship was taken over as Thomson Celebration by Thomson Cruises. The Marella Celebration has had its current name since it was renamed from Thomson Cruises to Marella Cruises in 2017. In 2020 the ship ended its active service.

Holland America Line

The Noordam was built under the hull number X27 at Chantiers de l'Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire and launched on May 21, 1983. After the takeover by Holland-America Line on April 2, 1984, the ship sailing under the flag of the Netherlands Antilles , registered in Sint Maarten , was put into service for cruises in the Caribbean on April 8, 1984 .

In 1996 the ship started sailing under the flag of the Netherlands and its home port was Rotterdam . The Noordam was relocated to Rotterdam in 1996 to be used for cruises in the North and Baltic Seas for the next eight years. In November 2004, the now twenty year old ship was taken out of service by Holland America.

Thomson Cruises / Marella Cruises

In the same year the Noordman was chartered to the British travel company Thomson Cruises, who renamed it Thomson Celebration . The ship started sailing again under the flag of the Netherlands Antilles with its home port Sint Marteen. Since November 2008 the ship has been sailing under the flag of Malta with her home port Valletta . In June 2010 TUI UK Ltd. bought the ship. In June 2015 it became the property of HAL Antillen NV. In 2017, the ship was renamed Marella Celebration due to the renaming of the shipping company in Marella Cruises .

Registered in Valletta, the Marella Celebration has been used for cruises across Europe. In the course of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic , all ships in the Marella Cruises fleet were temporarily decommissioned. In April 2020, Marella Cruises announced that the ship would not be returned to service.

Sister ship

The Marella Celebration had an identical sister ship , the question asked in the previous year in service, owned by Celestyal Cruises located Marella Spirit , which was used until 2018 also for Marella Cruises.
