Margaretha von Venningen became a Cistercian in the Rosenthal monastery near Grünstadt . In 1485 she was elected there as the next but one successor of Anna von Lustadt as the 11th abbess. She reformed with the support of Worms Bishop Johann III. von Dalberg († 1503) the monastic life of the convent, tightened the entry criteria, increased the monastery property through good economy and had the monastery church rebuilt in the late Gothic style, as it still exists today as a ruin. The famous Fial Tower of the church, now the landmark of Rosenthal, was built. She also acquired an estate in Dorn-Dürkheim for the convent .

The abbess died in the monastery in 1505 and was buried there. Barbara Göler of Ravensburg († 1535), the sister of Speyer canon David Göler of Ravensburg († 1539) , was chosen as her successor .

Margaretha von Venningen is one of the most important abbesses in Rosenthal history. The necrology calls her "Reformatrix monasterii" (the new monastery).
