David Göler von Ravensburg (* 1463 ; † March 20, 1539 ) was a noble canon in the Principality of Speyer .

Origin and family

He came from the old noble family of Göler von Ravensburg and was the son of the Electoral Palatinate bailiff in Bretten , Georg I. Göler von Ravensburg (1440–1502), and his wife Anna, née. Calf from Reinheim . David had three brothers and four sisters. The brothers Wolff II. (1460–1527) and Georg II. (1465–1558) also chose the clergy. Sister Scholastika (1466–1533) became abbess of Frauenalb monastery , sister Barbara († 1535) abbess of Rosenthal monastery in the Pfalz. The secular brother Bernhard I. Göler von Ravensburg (1480–1554) worked as an advisor to the Speyer bishop Georg von der Pfalz , but later joined the Reformation. The grandfather Martin Göler von Ravensburg was originally canon in Speyer, but was released from the ministry as the last male member of his family by Pope Eugene IV .

Life

David Göler von Ravensburg appears as the Speyer canon as early as 1498 . On October 6, 1517 he received the office of the local cathedral choirmaster . On October 1, 1530 he became provost of the All Saints' Monastery in Speyer , and on June 11, 1531 he took the oath as archdeacon of the diocese. On October 11, 1532, he renounced the previously held dignity of the provost of the knight's monastery at Odenheim at the Church of Our Lady Bruchsal because of the new offices . In 1530 he was one of the agents of Bishop Philipp von Flersheim , who negotiated with the Speyer city administration about the solemn entry of the shepherd.

Because of a Podagraleidens Göler von Ravensburg resigned his scholastic office on February 26, 1537 and instead asked for the transfer of the cathedral choir , which was granted to him. The cleric resided in the so-called Schlegelhof , which his brother Georg received after him and the ruins of which the Canon Hermann Lothar von Auwach acquired for his palace in 1700 . Today the central archive of the Evangelical Church of the Palatinate is located there .

David Göler von Ravensburg was also a canon at St. Viktor's Abbey near Mainz . He left this benefice to his brother Georg while he was still alive. After his death he was buried in the (no longer existing) cloister of the Speyer Cathedral .

His successor as cathedral cantor and provost of the All Saints' Foundation was Otto von Waldburg (1514–1573) in 1539 , who later rose to become cardinal.

Albrecht V. Göler of Ravensburg († 1503) was his uncle.
