Location of Margarethenried in Bavaria

Margarethenried is a northern part of the Bavarian municipality of Hörgertshausen in the Freising district .

history

Margarethenried Catholic parish church St. Margareth

Ried was first mentioned in a document in 1078 as a donation to the cathedral chapter of Freising. The place was first mentioned as Margarethenried around 1220. Margarethenried has been mentioned as an independent parish since 1315. From 1450 to 1818, the village was administered for military self-protection and the collection of state taxes by the Schergenöd chairman, who in turn was subordinate to the Moosburg regional court . As part of the administrative reforms in Bavaria in 1818, the chairmanship was transformed into the municipality of Margarethenried.

On May 1, 1978, the municipality of Margarethenried was dissolved as part of the regional reform and the area with the districts Besenried, Gröben, Grub, Höfl, Hub, Hufnagelreuth, Kehrer am Biber, Kimoden, Limmer zu den Linden, Niederschönbuch, Öd, Oberschönbuch, Schergenöd and Wildenreuth merged into the communities of Hörgertshausen , Gammelsdorf and Mauern .

The place briefly received international attention at the end of the 1970s when there was an Osho Ashram on the outskirts and people from all over Europe visited the place.

Culture and sights

Vierlärchenberg

Cross on the Vierlärchenberg

In 1850, on White Sunday , a cross was erected on the so-called Wein or Sielstettenerberg, in a northerly direction, above the village. It stands on the place "the three farmers" where, according to legend, three farmers were slain during the war in Sweden . In 1980 the cross was removed because of the risk of theft.

During the Second World War, the Vierlärchenberg was a flight reconnaissance post of the Luftwaffe.
