Margret Seemann (born December 19, 1961 in Wittenburg ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

From 1998 to the end of 2013 she was a member of the state parliament of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and from 2002 to 2011 at the same time parliamentary state secretary for women and equality in the state government of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . She has been the mayor of the city of Wittenburg since January 2014 .

Life and work

After high school in 1980 at an Extended Secondary School (EOS) in Hagenow graduated Margret Seemann studying at the University of Rostock , which she in 1984 as a graduate - teacher ended for the subjects History and German. She then worked as a teacher in Bad Doberan and in 1986 switched to teacher training at the University of Rostock as part of an apprenticeship . In 1990 her doctorate (dissertation A) took place here with the thesis "On the school policy disputes in the Mecklenburg-Schwerin state parliament about the higher education system and its development during the Weimar Republic " .

She then worked as a consultant for education, youth and sport in the SPD state parliamentary group in the state parliament of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. In 1994 she changed to the state government of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania as a consultant and was most recently responsible for the structural change and professional qualification department in the Ministry of Social Affairs.

Margret Seemann is divorced and has two sons.

Political party

Margret Seemann has been a member of the SPD since 1993 and has been deputy chairwoman of the SPD district association Ludwigslust since 1996 and Ludwigslust-Parchim since 2011 .

MPs

From 1998 to 2013 she was a member of the state parliament of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . From 1998 to 2002 she was social and equality policy spokeswoman for the SPD parliamentary group and chairwoman of the parliamentary committee for social affairs, health, family, women, youth, senior citizens and sport. On October 24, 2011 she was elected deputy group leader.

Public offices

On November 6, 2002, she was appointed to the state government of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, led by Prime Minister Harald Ringstorff , as parliamentary state secretary and as the state government's women's and equal opportunities officer . She held this office until it was abolished at the beginning of the 6th electoral term in October 2011. Responsibility for equality was transferred to the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Ministry of Social Affairs . In the 7th electoral term, Patrick Dahlemann , a parliamentary state secretary, was again appointed.

On September 22, 2013, Margret Seemann was elected mayor of the city of Wittenburg. The term of office of the previous mayor ended on October 31, 2013. The city of Wittenburg has a full-time mayor, as the city also runs the business of the Wittenburg office. When Margret Seemann took office, she had to give up her parliamentary mandate, as this is incompatible with her work as a municipal civil servant.
