The Maria-Hilf-Chapel in Ellingen , a town in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen ( Bavaria ), was built in 1731. The chapel is located behind the St. Georg church on Weißenburger Straße. The baroque Maria-Hilf-Chapel is a protected monument .

history

The Landkomtur Johann Ludwig von Roggenbach was buried in a burial chapel at the old parish church of St. Georg. This chapel had to give way to the new parish church. The new chapel was built in 1731 in the axis of the parish church, within the enclosed church area.

architecture

The small, oval central building with a crypt was built at the same time as the parish church as a burial place for the provincial commander Karl Heinrich von Hornstein according to plans by Franz Joseph Roth . The chapel contains the epitaphs with coats of arms for the Land Commander von Hornstein and von Roggenbach. In the side niches there are wooden figures of Our Lady and St. Sebastian , which were created around 1680 and originally stood in the demolished burial chapel. In the middle of the stucco marble altar is the altarpiece Maria Hilf. In the lantern are the resurrection of Christ and the continents represented in the four medallions.

Crypt

In the crypt , below the central axis of the chapel, lies the mummy of the provincial commander Karl Heinrich von Hornstein († 1745) in a glass shrine . In a coffin next to it lies the corpse of Landkomtur Johann Ludwig von Roggenbach († 1682). The heart of the last Frankish provincial commander Franz Sigismund Adalbert Freiherr von und zu Lehrbach is kept in a tin capsule .
