Maria Elena Boschi (born January 24, 1981 in Montevarchi , Arezzo province ) is an Italian politician . She has been a member of the Camera dei deputati since 2013 and was Minister for Constitutional Reform from 2014 to 2016.

She was a member of the Partito Democratico (PD) until September 2019, but then joined the Italia Viva party founded by Matteo Renzi .

biography

In her youth, Boschi was involved in the Catholic Church, was an altar boy, catechist and took part in the World Youth Days 1997 and 2000 . She graduated from the University of Florence with a top grade law degree and completed a Masters in corporate law. She then worked as a lawyer specializing in commercial, corporate and banking law. From 2009 to 2013 she was a board member of the Tuscan water supply company Publiacqua .

Boschi began her political engagement in 2008 as an election campaigner for Michele Ventura, who lost to the Partito Democratico Matteo Renzi in the primary election for mayoral. She belonged to the board of directors of the Florentine city association of the PD. In the 2012 primaries for the center-left alliance, she then supported Renzi's candidacy.

In the parliamentary elections in February 2013 , she was elected to represent Tuscany in the Italian Chamber of Deputies . There she was a member of the Committee on Constitutional Affairs and served as its secretary from 2013-14. On December 9, 2013, she became a member of the PD state executive under the newly elected PD party chairman Matteo Renzi. In the Renzi cabinet , she was Minister for Constitutional Reforms and Relations with Parliament from February 22, 2014 to December 12, 2016.

In 2015/2016, the two chambers of the Italian parliament decided on an extensive constitutional reform that was initiated by Matteo Renzi and Maria Elena Boschi, but was subsequently rejected in a constitutional referendum in December 2016, whereupon the Renzi government resigned. The following Cabinet Gentiloni she served until 2018 as Secretary of the Italian Council of Ministers in the Council of Ministers Presidium .

In the parliamentary elections in 2018 she entered the Chamber of Deputies with 41% of the votes in the South Tyrolean single constituency of Bolzano . In this legislative period she is a member of the Budget Committee and is a delegate in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe .
