The XV. World Youth Day was a Roman Catholic youth meeting that took place from August 15th to 20th, 2000 in the Italian capital Rome . According to the organizers, around two million young people from 157 countries took part, including 12,000 Germans.

World Youth Day that year coincided with the Great Jubilee of the Catholic Church proclaimed by Pope John Paul II . The final mass of the event did not find the first time at St. Peter's Square, but on the grounds of the University of Tor Vergata instead.

The motto of the XV. World Youth Day read:

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. ( Joh 1,14  EU )

The official anthem for the meeting, "Emmanuel", was sung in Italian, Spanish, English and French. It was composed by Marco Mammoli, Marco Brusati, Mauro Labellarte and Massimo Versaci and arranged by Valter Vincenti.

The World Youth Day logo symbolically summarizes the three basic elements of the meeting: the location, the participants and the meeting itself.

The city of Rome is symbolized by a stylized dome of St. Peter's Basilica and the sides of the Bernini colonnades. The depiction of St. Peter's Basilica is symbolic of the Church and the Pope as the invitation to World Youth Day. The city's colors, yellow and red, also indicate Rome as a venue. The encounter between church and world is expressed through an "embrace" and the mixture of the two colors - orange.
