Otto Adolf Ludwig von Steinmeister (born February 28, 1860 in Bünde , † November 1, 1937 in Frankfurt (Oder) ) was a German administrative lawyer.

Life

Otto von Steinmeister attended secondary school and grammar school in Minden and studied law and political science at the universities of Heidelberg and Berlin from 1879 . At the beginning of his studies he became active in the Corps Vandalia Heidelberg , which later made him an honorary member. He completed his studies in 1883 with the first state examination and in 1890 (after his legal clerkship) with the second state examination as well as with the doctorate to Dr. jur. from. From 1883 he worked at the local court in Bünde, from 1886 at the government in Potsdam. From 1890 he worked at the police headquarters in Berlin and from 1893/94 in the Prussian Ministry of the Interior as an unskilled worker. In December 1894 he was appointed provisional and from November 1, 1895 finally as district administrator of the district of Höchst . He worked as a district administrator until 1900 and then moved to Kassel as police director and in 1903 as chief of police in Hanover. In 1905 he became president of the Cologne administrative district . He remained in this office until he retired on September 1, 1917. On August 30, 1917, he was ennobled .

From March 1918 he was head of the civil administration in the General Government of Warsaw . In 1919 he became chairman of the supervisory board of Mitteldeutsche Creditbank . After the merger, he remained a member of the supervisory board of Commerz- und Privat-Bank and Commerzbank until his death . From 1921 he was also a member of the supervisory board of the Hoechst paintworks and IG Farben .

From 1896 to 1900 Otto von Steinmeister was a member of the Nassau municipal parliament . In 1900 he was briefly elected to the state committee.

family

Otto von Steinmeister was the son of the factory owner August Steinmeister (born June 15, 1820 in Eslohe; † June 27, 1871 in Bünde) and his wife Ottilie née Menne (born August 13, 1829 in Olpe; † March 26, 1900 in Bünde) .

Otto von Steinmeister was married to Maria, born Siebert, widowed Brüning. She was the daughter of the banker Karl August Siebert (born January 2, 1835 in Frankfurt am Main; † November 20, 1904 there) and widow of the industrialist Gustav Brüning (August 5, 1864 in Höchst; † February 8, 1913 in St. Moritz) .

His nephew Justus Weihe also worked as a district administrator.
