Gisela Walsken (* 3. February 1958 in Duisburg ), formerly Gisela Meyer-Schiffer is a German politician and since 18 August 2010 Government President in Region of Cologne . From 1990 to 2010 she was a member of the SPD in the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia .

School time / studies

After completing elementary school at the Hochfelder Markt elementary school in Duisburg, she graduated from the Johanna-Sebus-Gymnasium in 1977 . She then studied history and geography for the teaching post for secondary levels I and II. In 1983, she completed her studies with the 1st state examination. She became a trainee teacher for secondary level I and II teaching at Steinbart-Gymnasium and passed the 2nd state examination.

Professional activities

In 1987 she started working as a research assistant at the Ruhr Area Municipal Association (KVR - today RVR), Public Relations Department. Most recently, she worked there as a freelancer as part of a "mini job" in the Ruhr Tour / Events division.

politics

Gisela Walsken has been a member of the SPD since January 1, 1974. She is also a member of the NRW state executive committee of the SPD. Her other partisan tasks include the deputy chairmanship in the Duisburg sub-district. Walsken is a member of the Committee for Housing Promotion of the Housing Promotion Agency (WfA) of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and a member of the Board of Directors of the Construction and Real Estate Company (BLB) NRW. She is a volunteer member of the board of the Atlantis Children's Museum in Duisburg. She is a member of the metal industry union, the Progressive Parents and Educators Association (PEV), the Arbeiterwohlfahrt (AWO) , the Falken, the Friends of Nature, the Child Protection Association and the Duisburg University Society.

Member of the state parliament in NRW

Walsken was a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia from May 31, 1990 to August 19, 2010. She was spokeswoman for her party in the budget and finance committee and a member of the council of elders. After the change of government coalition in North Rhine-Westphalia, she was appointed successor to Cologne's district president Hans Peter Lindlar on July 20, 2010 .

She is married to the politician and manager Ernst Martin Walsken and has one child.
