Karl von Gerlach
Karl Johann Heinrich Eduard Gerlach , von Gerlach since 1840 , (born December 30, 1792 in Neuwedell ; † August 14, 1863 in Boossen ) was Berlin Police President and was made an honorary citizen of Berlin in 1834 for his services .
Life
The Protestant Karl Gerlach was the son of the Justice Council Karl Gerlach and his wife Eleonore, née Stegmann. After finishing school he studied in Frankfurt (Oder) and Berlin law . With the completion of his studies he joined in 1814 in the Prussian civil service, where he was a clerk in the government, the police commissariat found and in the control and Commercial Director for Employment. In 1821 he was transferred to the Ministry of War as a lieutenant , to which he last belonged as a secret war council .
On April 1, 1832, Gerlach occupied the position of police chief in Berlin, which he would hold for almost seven years. With the Highest Cabinet Order (AKO) of January 5, 1839, he was also given the office of District President and thus the management of the Royal Prussian Government in Cologne, which he took up on February 8. On January 24, 1843, he ordered the suppression of the Rheinische Zeitung . In an unchanged position, he was transferred to the government in Erfurt with AKO on May 14, 1844 (definitive appointment on July 1, 1844), where he finally retired on July 1, 1845. He spent the last years of his life in Frankfurt (Oder). On October 15, 1840, he was honored by the Prussian king with the elevation to the nobility.

Karl von Gerlach married Regine Pauline Lütke (also Lütcke) on March 28, 1824 in Berlin (born March 15, 1805 in Berlin; † April 25, 1880 in Frankfurt (Oder)). She was a daughter of the Berlin city council and hat manufacturer Johann Ferdinand Lütke and his wife Sabine Regine, née Degner. The couple had several children:
