history

It was consecrated as a parish church on December 7, 1957 by Paderborn Auxiliary Bishop Franz Hengsbach (later first diocesan bishop of the Essen diocese ) and today belongs to the Essen diocese, but for 24 days, from December 7, 1957 to January 1, 1958, to the Archdiocese of Paderborn . It was the last consecrated church of the auxiliary bishop. It is thus the second oldest still standing Catholic church in the core town of Lüdenscheid. In 2005 it was subordinate to four branch churches , three of which were closed during the structural reform . Only the St. Hedwig branch church remained. The former parish of Maria Königin was looked after by the Claretian fathers until 2005 . Hans Helmut Ferkinghoff has been pastor since 2006. He is no longer given the title of pastor because the parish of Maria Königin was merged with the other Catholic parishes of the city of Lüdenscheid to form a city ​​parish (St. Medardus) on October 1st, 2006 . The first pastor was the former district dean of the Altena-Lüdenscheid district dean , Johannes Broxtermann, who is pastor of the parish of St. Joseph and Medardus .

The church building was entered in the list of monuments of the city of Lüdenscheid on July 30, 2019 .

The church, plastered white on the outside, was built in 1957. It is a single-nave church with a Lady Chapel . It has 20 rows of benches with around 10 seats each. When counting church visitors, which take place four times a year, usually 120 to 160 church visitors are counted. On special festive days ( Christmas , Easter , first communions and confirmations ), beer tent benches are regularly set up, but these are usually not enough. So are z. B. Around 300 to 400 visitors present at Christmas. The church windows were designed by Herbert Bienhaus . The elaborately designed tabernacle and the ambo designed in the same style , as well as the socket for the eternal light, are striking .

In the approximately 10 m² circular Marienkapelle at the south-western end of the church there is a figure of Mary with a baby Jesus in her arms. There is also a worship bench and a candlestick stand . In the past, this chapel was also used as a baptistery.

Campanile (church tower)

The community's cubic campanile is around 50 meters high and towers high above Lüdenscheid, but is not equipped with bells. When erecting the tower, the architect took into account the load-bearing capacity of the bells, but did not include the forces that would arise when the bells ring.

The community center was renovated and rebuilt from 2010 to 2011. The solemn inauguration and blessing took place on October 9th, 2011. For example, the pastor is also at home in the new community center. It has 4 floors. There is a large storage area in the attic. The actual community rooms are on the upper floor. In addition to the priest's apartment, the parish library is located here , divided into 2 rooms (children's and adult books), 4 multi-purpose rooms , the parish office, a kitchen, a cleaning room and three toilets , one of which is handicapped accessible . The St. Rita Catholic kindergarten and the former after-school care center are located on the ground floor . The KjG has its group rooms in the basement . All floors, except the top floor, are connected by an elevator, which cost 34,000 euros and was supported by the local savings bank and municipal utilities .

There are 65 places in the kindergarten for children from 2 years of age. It is managed by Marina Heße . There used to be a after-school care center at this location, but it was closed.

According to its own information, the municipality has the most visitors to the family fair. The church is known beyond the city ​​limits for its family mass.

The Maria Königin congregation has around 50 altar boys . Every weekend mass is attended by around 4-8 altar servers. The community of altar servers endeavors to cooperate more and more with the altar servers of the parish.

Catholic young community

The KjG meets regularly in different groups. The KjG is divided into 4 group levels. Of the communion children who went to first communion in 2011, around 15 children later became members of the KjG.

From the consecration until 2005 the parish at that time was looked after by the Claretians . We still have a strong bond with them today. Thus, the municipality Mary Queen in India , in the state of Karnataka , more precisely in Honnāli still a godfather community with which it is actively connected. Pastor Hans-Helmut Ferkinghoff has been the spiritual leader of the congregation since 2006.

Rite sisters

There used to be up to four Rita Sisters in the parish at the best of times . There are currently no Rita Sisters in the community. In 2006 the last one was withdrawn.

Patronage

The patronage is Mary Queen . The patronage festival is celebrated on August 22nd .
