Karoline Ferdinande of Austria
Karoline Ferdinande of Austria (born April 8, 1801 in Vienna as Maria Karolina Ferdinande Theresia Josephine Demetria , † May 22, 1832 in Dresden ) was an Archduchess of Austria and, by marriage, Princess of Saxony .
Life
Karoline Ferdinande was born in Vienna as the daughter of Emperor Franz II and his second wife Maria Theresa of Naples and Sicily . The princess was named after an older sister who died as a child.
On September 26th, 1819, she was married in Vienna ( per procurationem ) and on October 7th, 1819 in Dresden (in persona) at the age of 18 to the nephew of the Saxon king, who later became King Friedrich August II of Saxony.
The marriage lasted 13 years and remained childless. On May 22, 1832, Princess Karoline Ferdinande died at the age of 31 and was buried in the Great Crypt of the Catholic Court Church in Dresden. A year later, her husband married Princess Maria Anna of Bavaria .
