Maria Mateas (born July 21, 1999 ) is a Romanian-born American tennis player .
Career
Mateas started playing tennis at the age of six and prefers hard courts. She mainly plays on the ITF Women's World Tennis Tour , where she has so far won a tournament in singles.
In 2016, she competed in all four Grand Slam tournaments in both junior singles and junior doubles, but never got past the first or second round in singles. Only in the junior doubles of the Australian Open and the US Open 2016 did she reach the round of 16 with her partners.
She also competed in her first tournament on the WTA Tour in 2016 with a wildcard for the main draw in the women's singles of the Bank of the West Classic . She lost to Zheng Saisai 5: 7 and 1: 6 in the first round .
In 2017 she received a wildcard for qualifying for the Connecticut Open , but where she lost in the first round to Viktorija Tomowa 6: 7, 5 and 3: 6. She then reached the round of 16 at Abierto Tampico 2017 with a win over the eighth seeded Ivana Jorović , where she was defeated by Aliona Bolsova Zadoinov 6: 7, 5 and 2: 6.
In 2018 she reached the second round of the Coupe Banque Nationale qualification with a 6: 4 and 6: 1 over Jada Bui , where she lost to Marie Bouzková with 3: 6 and 2: 6.
In 2020 she reached the main draw of the Oracle Challenger Series - Indian Wells as a lucky loser , where she lost 3: 6 and 0: 6 to the Serbian Olga Danilović in her opening match .
