Maria Sławoszewska

Maria Sławoszewska (born February 10, 1903 in Chołoniów , Russian Empire (today Холонів, Horokhiv Rajon , Ukraine ); † May 14, 1979 in Danzig ) was a Polish historian and archivist . In 1968 she became the first woman director of the Gdańsk State Archives ( Polish Wojewódzkie Archiwum Państwowe w Gdańsku ).

Life

Maria Sławoszewska was born in Volhynia in 1903 . She studied history at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków from 1923 to 1928 and completed her doctorate in 1932 . Sławoszewska became a lecturer at the University of Gdansk in 1966 .

Sławoszewska worked in the Gdańsk City Library in 1945 and moved to the State Archives in 1947. As the head of the department for the files of the city of Gdansk, she became the acting director of the archive in May 1968. In November 1969 she handed over the office to Czesław Biernat.

Sławoszewska was an active member of the Society of Friends of Science and Art (TPNiS, Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Nauki i Sztuki ) and the Gdańsk Scientific Society (GTN, Gdańskie Towarzystwo Naukowe ).
