Maria Schneider (politician, 1923)

Maria Schneider (born February 9, 1923 in Merka , Upper Lusatia ) is a former German politician ( SED ). She was a member of the State Council of the GDR .

Life

Schneider, the daughter of a Sorbian farm worker, attended elementary and trade school and completed a commercial apprenticeship from 1938 to 1941. She then worked as a commercial assistant and as a secretary.

In 1945 she became a member of Domowina , in 1946 of the FDGB and in 1948 of the SED and the Democratic Women's Association of Germany . From 1952 to 1958 she was secretary at MTS Panschwitz , instructor for women's work at MTS Luttowitz (Bautzen district) and clerk at VEB Elektroporzellanwerk Großdubrau . There she was head of the labor department from 1958 to 1962. She then studied at the industrial institute of the TH Ilmenau until 1964 . She completed her studies with a degree in engineering. From 1964 she was an assistant, from 1971 director for economics at VEB Fernmeldewerk Leipzig, Bautzen plant . From 1965 she was a member of the trade union committee and the social council of VVB Nachrichten- und Meßtechnik.

From 1949 to 1953 she was a community representative, from 1957 to 1961 a member of the Bautzen district council . From 1967 to 1976 she was a member of the FDGB in the People's Chamber . From 1971 to 1976 she was a member of the Committee for Industry, Construction and Transport. From 1967 to 1971 Schneider was also a member of the State Council of the GDR . Schneider was awarded the Clara Zetkin Medal in 1970.
