Maria Teresa do Carmo de Noronha Guimarães Serôdio (born November 7, 1918 in Lisbon , † July 4, 1993 in São Pedro de Penaferrim , Sintra district ) was a fado singer .

She came from a noble family and sang fado early on with friends and family. When she began to sing in fado bars, she aroused the interest of Lisbon's fado circles. In 1939 she recorded her first single, O Fado dos Cinco Estilos (“The Fado of the 5 Styles”), after becoming known through appearances on the radio. She received her own radio broadcast on the Emissora Nacional , Fados e Guitarradas , which was broadcast for 23 years.

Her way of singing and performing have brought her increasing popularity and reputation. She was invited to the opening of the Lisbon-Rio de Janeiro airline and sang in Madrid in 1946 and at the Barcelona Book Fair at the invitation of the Spanish state.

In 1962 she left the Emissora Nacional and henceforth only sings in private circles and on selected occasions. For example, she sings in Monaco at the invitation of Rainier III. (Monaco) and Grace Kelly both privately and at the Casino Monte Carlo , and performed in England in 1964 (at the Portuguese embassy and on the BBC's radio and television ).

From 1939 she recorded shellac records and published numerous records between 1959 and 1972 . The last time she sang in public was in 1976 in the fado hall O Picadeiro by António Chainho , where she attended the singing of the singer Manuel de Almeida and was asked by him to sing a song as well.

Her style has often been called "fado aristocrático" , probably because of her origins. On the contrary, almost without exception, she sang “fado castiço” , a fado based on folk poets and the original traditions of the common people's quarters.
