Marialva , officially Município de Marialva , is a Brazilian city ​​in the state of Paraná . In 2010 the city had around 32,000 inhabitants on an area of ​​475 square kilometers. The IBGE estimated on July 1, 2013 the population at 33,794 inhabitants, who are called Marialvensians. Marialva is about 600 meters above sea ​​level .

Marialva is part of the mesoregion Norte Central Paranaense and the microregion Maringá , as well as the metropolitan region Região metropolitana de Maringá .

Marialva is known for its grape production and has the city nickname "Capital of the Grapes " (Capital da Uva Fina).

history

Patron saint is the 4th Marquês de Marialva , Pedro José de Alcântara de Meneses Noronha Coutinho, 6th Conde von Cantanhede (1713–1799).

By law Lei nº 790 on November 14, 1951, the municipality was spun off as an independent municipality from the administrative district of Mandaguari .

City administration

Marialva is divided into the four districts ( distritos ) Aquidaban, São Luiz, São Miguel do Cambuí and Santa Fé do Pirapó.

Edgar Silvestre of the Partido Socialista Brasileiro (PSB), who has held the office since 2009 , has been city prefect for the 2013 to 2016 term of office since the 2012 local elections .
