Marie Buckwitz
Marie Buckwitz (born July 9, 1890 in Vienna , died on August 29, 1951 in Klosterneuburg ) was an Austrian chemist and language teacher. She was one of the first women to do a doctorate in chemistry at the University of Vienna .
Life
Buckwitz was born in Vienna as the daughter of Arthur Buckwitz and Malvine Buckwitz, née Döri, and was baptized in the Protestant parish Vienna Inner City according to the Augsburg Confession .
Marie Buckwitz visited by the public school the girls secondary school of the Vienna women's employment association and graduated in 1908 with the matriculation examination from. In order to study at the university to be approved, she put the required exam as Externistin at the KK state secondary school Wien I from. From 1911 she was at the University of Vienna as an extraordinary listener enrolled , after passing the Matura Latin supplement in February 1913 as ordinary listener.
She studied at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Vienna, among others with Wolfgang Josef Pauli , the father of Nobel Prize winner Wolfgang Pauli . The doctoral supervisor of her dissertation , submitted in autumn 1917, was the chemist Rudolf Wegscheider .
After her father Arthur died at the age of 57 on January 7th, 1915, she moved to Klosterneuburg with her mother Malvine and the brothers Peter, Paul and Hans on August 1st of the same year.
After the First World War she lived outside Austria for several years, but returned to Klosterneuburg in 1930. The right of home in her new and old hometown was granted to her in May 1930 by the municipality of Klosterneuburg by way of presidency . She gave language and tutoring lessons in Klosterneuburg and advertised them through small advertisements in the Neue Klosterneuburger Zeitung . At least between 1931 and 1933 she held English courses at the Urania adult education center in Klosterneuburg.
During the Nazi rule in Austria was it due to the Nuremberg racial laws as a full Jew to lead and had demgemaß from 1941 the name Maria Sara Buckwitz. According to her work book kept by the Vienna Employment Office, from January 15, 1945, she worked as a " home worker / sackcloth" at the Emanuel Kafunek lithographic printing company. This employment relationship was confirmed on February 28, 1945. There is documentary evidence that she was summoned to the Vienna State Police Headquarters of the Secret State Police on January 30, 1945 . Any consequences of this summons have not yet been proven.
The Vienna City and State Archives stated in a written report dated September 13, 2019 that Marie Buckwitz had her permanent residence in Klosterneuburg (part of Greater Vienna between 1938 and 1955) between 1951 and her death. In the registration files from 1941 it appears that she moved in with her mother on June 28, 1941 as a subtenant. At the same time it was stated that the previous address was "Venice, Calle Vitturi 2916".
In her death certificate of August 30, 1951, the marital status is "single" and the profession is "language teacher".

The acquaintance of Buckwitz and the actor Hugo Thimig is proven by archives in the Austrian Theater Museum . Marie Buckwitz was the cousin of the German theater man Harry Buckwitz .
