Anne Marie Thérèse Colombier (born November 28, 1844 in Auzances ; died August 30, 1910 in Garches ) was a French actress and writer.

Life

Marie Colombier came to Paris from Creuse with her mother at the age of seven . At the age of 15 she went to Brussels to take acting lessons from Jean-Baptiste Quélus at the Theater La Monnaie . In 1862 she was back in Paris and attended the Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique .

Colombier began her theater career like Zola's " Nana " with the revealing portrayal of her charms . She received her first major role in 1864 at the Théâtre du Châtelet . In the following years she also appeared at the Théâtre de la Gaîté , the Théâtre de l'Ambigu-Comique and the Théâtre de l'Odéon . She toured France for a while and made trips to Naples and Berlin.

She competed with the acting diva Sarah Bernhardt . In 1881 she saw herself as a companion of Bernhardt on a tour to the USA and then published the diatribe Les Mémoires de Sarah Barnum in 1883 . The writer Octave Mirbeau on the side of Bernhardt and Paul Bonnetain , at the time Colombier's lover and writer (not only?) Of the foreword, dueled for the honor of their ladies. According to a newspaper report on the gossip page of the New York Herald on December 20, 1883, Bernhardt, her son and the writer Jean Richepin broke into Colombier's apartment to seek revenge. Colombier's writing was confiscated, but it still achieved multiple editions and earned her a fortune.

Colombier withdrew from the stage as an actress and staged her own play Bianca in Versailles in 1884 with moderate success . She wrote several novels as well as her memoirs. Colombier was buried on the Cimetière du Père Lachaise , the grave site has been preserved.
