Marie Pittroff (* 1952 in Strasbourg , France ) is a German - French painter and a representative of photorealism .
biography
After studying German , Romance studies and comparative literature as well as teaching for several years, she began studying painting with Klaus Jürgen-Fischer at the Academy of Fine Arts at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz , which she graduated with a diploma in 1991. Since then she has been working as a freelance artist. From 1991 to 2000 she was artistic director of the gallery in the HinterHaus , Wiesbaden , and from 1981 to 1995 she was chairwoman of the cultural association Thalhaus im Nerotal, Wiesbaden. She lives and works in Mainz and Strasbourg.

Marie Pittroff's painterly oeuvre can be divided into two object references: portraits on the one hand, and urban landscapes on the other. Both are inspired by travel as well as mediation in the media. As an urban environment, New York City is the artist's focus, alongside Los Angeles , Miami and Algiers (in cooperation with the artist Nicole Guiraud). When it comes to portraits, the artist colleagues are particularly interested, such as Billie Holiday and the Algerian singer Khaled , but mainly the musician Lou Reed and his former band Velvet Underground .
The artist uses traditional glaze painting with oil paint as a technique .
Collaboration with other artists
In 2003, Marie Pittroff worked with the American artist and rock musician Lou Reed. She noticed her paintings in an exhibition catalog, and he selected them for several of his records / CD productions such as “Lou Reed NYC Man”, “Greatest Hits” and the hit single “Satellite of Love”. One of her large-format Lou Reed portraits is now in the musician's possession. In autumn 2011 the double CD “The Essential Lou Reed” was released with the picture of Marie Pittroff on the cover again; it is a re-edition by Lou Reed NYC Man .
