Marie von Frisch (born December 9, 1844 ; died April 6, 1925 in Vienna ) was Anton von Frisch's wife . She is known for her long-standing correspondence with Gottfried Keller .

Life

As the daughter of the philosopher and school reformer Franz Serafin Exner and Charlotte Dusensy, Marie Exner came from one of the most influential academic families of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. She had four famous brothers: Adolf Exner , Karl Exner , Sigmund Exner and Franz-Serafin Exner . In 1867 she was engaged to the historian Ludwig Zitkovsky. Between 1869 and 1872 she traveled to Zurich to see her brother Adolf Exner. She first met Gottfried Keller in 1872 . In 1874 he married the urologist Anton von Frisch . In 1875, 1877, 1878 and 1886 the four sons Hans , Otto, Ernst and Karl were born. Her youngest son, the zoologist Karl von Frisch , discovered the language of bees and received the Nobel Prize for Medicine . She was buried at the Dornbacher Friedhof .

From 1895 on, Marie von Frisch cultivated a friendship with Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach and from 1897 also with Ricarda Huch . She was also known for her friendship and the correspondence with Gottfried Keller , which lasted until his death in 1890.
